SYNOPSIS
When students participate in debate, they learn to study issues in depth, form perspectives and make structured, persuasive arguments. The course is focused on developing rational and logical lines of enquiry, the ability to structure rebuttals and counterpoints, and the ability to form cohesive and persuasive presentations. Debating will allow participants to gain access to ongoing topical social discussions, enabling them to develop into active members of society and potential public figures of the future. Through a detailed study of our cultures’ most important talking points, the course explores methods of improving presentation skills, where participants will develop confidence and character in their ability to hold their positions, inform, entertain and persuade their audiences.

Students will develop an awareness of the power of their own voice, body language and language choices through lectures, workbooks and interactive activities. Participants will be more able to fluently contribute to a range of discussions and issues. Competencies in using powerful linguistic devices will be gained that are useful for public settings, developing rhetoric, overall fluency and articulation. With structured presentation skills and concise models for creating coherent presentations and debates, participants will develop their ability to communicate effectively in a range of settings.

This unique programme does not aim to make you sound like the queen with Received Pronunciation. In fact, it will help you soften your current accent and help you communicate clearly, and confidently, improving the sounds and intonation of your spoken English.
